Stepping up to the plate

metalweb continues to invest in the future with another £350,000 investment in the latest plate-sawing and swarf extraction equipment.

The recent investment includes two state-of-the-art Mayer plate-saws and two large cyclone swarf extraction units. The plate-saws will be installed in metalweb’s Manchester and Birmingham locations.

One of the saws will be only the second of its kind in the UK (both are located at metalweb’s Birmingham operation), cutting aluminium plate up to 254mm thick with a circular tungsten carbide blade. The machine will have a large 55Kw motor for increased cutting speed and accuracy.

Tony Heard, Operations Director at metalweb, said:

“This investment, means we have the ability to significantly increase our capacity and offer our customers shorter lead-times, where required.”

To accompany the new plate-saws, metalweb are also investing in a fully integrated plate optimisation package. This advanced software will facilitate better material planning, as well as supporting estimated cutting times and capacity planning.
