Flying high after £1m contract win

We are pleased to announce that a major new £1m contract has descended on our Birmingham-based operation.

After a competitive four-way tender, Eaton’s Aerospace appointed metalweb in May and we started supply just two months later. Eaton’s is renowned as a world leader and premier innovator in aerospace which manufactures and integrates the industry’s most advanced products and technologies for hydraulic systems, fuel systems, motion control and engine solutions.

The contract covers all aluminium products, including aerospace bar and sheet, for Eatons Aerospace and its subcontractors in the UK and we estimate that the total contract will see us supply over 250 tonnes. Product will be supplied ‘cut to size’ via electronic call offs, using Eaton Aerospace part numbers, with components delivered in recyclable boxes on a ‘Kanban’ basis. The supply of product and contract management will be based at the Birmingham operation.

Bruce Maggs, Managing Director at metalweb, said: “Immediately after securing the contract we set up joint improvement teams to look at a series of lean initiatives to remove cost from the supply chain. The first tranche of initiatives include supply direct to cell and alternative material sources. I genuinely feel that winning the contract was a joint effort involving sales, operations and quality – it’s fantastic news not just for the Birmingham operation but the wider metalweb business.”
